Suffolk contains some of England's finest beaches and has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Characterised by its flowering lanes and colour-washed pink cottages, the Suffolk Coast and Heaths have retained much of their original character.
The low-lying coastal hinterland contains some of England's few remaining areas of ancient open heathland, known locally as The Sandlings. Here wild, sandy stretches are the refuge of the nightjar, woodlark and rare butterflies.
And then, of course, there is the Aldeburgh Music Festival, perhaps one of the greatest musical festivals in the world.
In recent years the Festival has expanded to include the creation of Free Events on the Beach, which have been enjoyed by people of all ages. A new initiative for 2000 was the Pumphouse, an informal venue that embraces experimentation, spontaneity and the nurturing of new talent.
